COSTUME PORTFOLIO

Joffrey Baratheon
Game of Thrones

The first thing that everyone asks me when they meet me wearing my Joffrey Baratheon costume is: "Why?"

Joffrey is a mean, twisted, completely despicable antagonist. So, why would any cosplayer want to play a sadistic guy like Joffrey? Well, in big costuming groups, somebody's gotta be the villain. And, cosplayers tend to pick a favorite fandom and, then, pick someone close to their body type. I guess I drew the short straw.

There is something fun about playing a character that evokes powerful emotions in people. I get to walk around con as a pompous jerk, demanding that everyone bow before their rightful King!

I chose to do a combination of different outfits from "The North Remembers." Since Joffrey wears different outfits in each scene, I chose to do an outfit that called from different aspects of his wardrobe throughout the series, rather than an outfit from canon.

This costume was assembled by altering Simplicity 4059 (A Doublet). The collar (which is not part of Simplicity 4059) came from Simplicity 4942, an out-of-print Lord of the Rings pattern. I used red and gold upholstery fabric from Joann Fabrics and lined it in a gold satin. The crown was 3D printed from Shapewaysusing Xeijix's tutorial. Later, that crown actually broke and I ended up reprinting it on my 3D printer (which was cheaper by far.)

King Joffrey Baratheon was debuted at Pax Prime 2013 to many hisses and boos. I dragged around the lovely Lady Sansa and showed her just what we do with traitors. I was a runner-up at the Corsair Costume Contest and had a blast playing the villain. Following Pax, Joffrey attended Emerald City Comic Con in 2014 and was treated respectlfully by the peasants.
